Mr. Petrucelli

The 2026-2027 school year will be Mr. Petrucelli's first year as the Principal at Sparta Middle School. Previously, he was Assistant Principal at SMS for three years. Mr. Petrucelli comes with 18 years of experience as an educator, most recently as a math teacher in the Mountain Lakes school district. As a Sparta alum, Mr. Petrucelli looks forward to building a positive school climate and contributing to Sparta's continued tradition of excellence.

Dr. Davis

The 2026-2027 school year will be Dr. Davis’ twenty first year at Sparta Middle School, and his twenty sixth year in education. Prior to working in Sparta, he was an English teacher in Mahwah, NJ and before that he worked in Paterson at Eastside High School, also teaching English. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Montclair State University and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from William Paterson University and this year Dr. Davis earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Outside of school he enjoys coaching baseball, reading, playing guitar and spending time with his family. As a Sparta resident, he is committed to making sure Sparta continues to be the best place there is to live and raise a family. 

Mr. Shafer

The 2026-2027 school year will be Mr. Shafer's first year as the Assistant Principal at Sparta Middle School. Prior to joining Sparta Middle School, Mr. Shafer was Vice Principal of Sparta High School. Before coming to Sparta, Mr. Shafer served as a Social Studies Teacher at Pompton Lakes High School. In addition, he was also the administrator of the success club, Coordinator of the Professional Development Team, and Coordinator of the I&RS Team, as well as the K-8 Summer School Principal. Mr. Shafer was also a Varsity Boys Basketball Coach in addition to coaching both football and baseball. Mr. Shafer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History-Secondary Education as well as a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership.
