It is an honor to serve as the Principal of Sparta High School. My commitment to this school community is deeply personal, rooted in the experiences that have shaped both my life and my career. As a former Sparta High School student, teacher, coach, vice principal, and now principal, I have experienced firsthand the transformative power of an SHS education.

I can still remember hearing my high school principal echo the phrase, "It Takes a Little More to Be a Spartan," over the loudspeaker each morning as I sat in a Sparta High School building that looked very different than it does today. While much has changed over the years, that message has endured. That motto carries with it the meaning that Spartans have grit and give—qualities that will guide my leadership as I begin my tenure in this position.

I am committed to leading with both a listening ear and a thoughtful eye—celebrating our successes, embracing innovation, and ensuring that every student and staff member has opportunities to grow and thrive. We will work together to provide students with a space to discover their strengths, develop their voices, and pursue their passions while feeling known, valued, and inspired to learn each day.

Our school community extends well beyond the walls of Sparta High School, and I look forward to connecting with students, parents, alumni, and community members throughout the year. Your perspectives, ideas, and feedback are invaluable as we continue to build upon Sparta High School's tradition of excellence.

Ms. Kopf was appointed Vice Principal of Sparta High School in February 2022. She began her career in 2006 as a Biological Sciences Teacher.  She served as an Anti-Bullying Specialist, Track & Field Coach, Cross Country Coach, and Class Advisor throughout her time in the North Plainfield and Belvidere school districts. She most recently served as the Dean of Students in Randolph High School. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science Education from Rutgers University and a Master of Arts in Secondary Biological Science Education and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University.

Mr. Malakuskie was appointed Vice Principal of Sparta High School in 2026. Prior to becoming SHS Vice Principal, Mr. Malakuskie served as a 7th grade Biology Teacher at Sparta Middle School for the past 10 years, and brings over 20 years of classroom experience teaching Biology and Physics to grades 7-8. In addition to his role in the classroom, Mr. Malakuskie coached both soccer and boys volleyball at Sparta High School. Mr. Malakuskie holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University, as well as a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Centenary University. Mr. Malakuskie looks forward to continuing to serve the Spartan family community in his new role at the High School.
