Interim Superintendent of Sparta Township Public Schools
Entering his 18th year in education, Mr. McQueeney is proud to serve the Sparta Township Public Schools as the Interim Superintendent of Schools. Mr. McQueeney began his educational career as a chemistry and physics teacher before moving into administration as a high school vice principal at Hawthorne and Randolph High Schools and an elementary school principal with the Hackettstown Public Schools. Mr. McQueeney began his tenure in Sparta as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Staff Development in July of 2018 and then was appointed as the Acting Superintendent of Schools in May 2020.
Prior to his career in education, Mr. McQueeney was employed by Lucent Technologies as a process engineer developing specialty photonics devices. During his time at Lucent, Mr. McQueeney earned his Masters Degree in Materials Manufacturing Engineering from Rutgers University and began his Masters in Business Administration from Centenary University. Mr. McQueeney transitioned into education following his love for working with students in and out of the classroom. Mr. McQueeney accepted a science teaching position and earned his teaching certification. Mr. McQueeney subsequently completed his MBA and began his educational journey. Currently, Mr. McQueeney is pursuing an earned doctorate of education in Educational Leadership.
Mr. McQueeney is a proud resident of Sparta and has two children in the Sparta Twp. Public Schools and one child at Sussex County Technical School. Mr. McQueeney’s focus is on the growth and success of ALL students inside and outside of the classroom. Mr. McQueeney is a proud supporter of the Spartan music, theater, athletic and academic programs for our students and can be found supporting our Spartans at many school events throughout the district.
