Superintendent of Sparta Township Public Schools

  • Dr. Matthew Beck began his role as Superintendent of Schools of the Sparta Township Public School in June of 2021. Dr. Beck’s administrative career includes roles as high school Vice Principal, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in a high school district, as well as Superintendent roles in a K-6 and K-8 district.

    In addition to his current role as Superintendent, Dr. Beck also currently serves as the President of the Sussex County Superintendents' Roundtable Association (SCSRA).

    Prior to his administrative career, Dr. Beck served as a Social Studies teacher and coached multiple athletic teams on the high school level. Dr. Beck’s teaching career began in the East Orange School District, where he taught Social Studies and coached the JV baseball team. Dr. Beck then taught elementary-level social studies at Fredon Township School before continuing his career teaching Social Studies at Morris County School of Technology, where he also coached JV boys’ soccer and varsity girls’ basketball for four years.

    Dr. Beck’s educational background includes a B.A. in Criminology from Wilkes University and an M.A. in Secondary Education from East Stroudsburg University. Dr. Beck recently defended his doctoral dissertation and completed all requirements to earn his Ed. D. in Educational Leadership.

    On a personal note, Dr. Beck resides in Fredon Township with his wife and his two sons. Dr. Beck is involved in his community and enjoys coaching his sons’ youth football, basketball, and baseball teams.

    Dr. Beck is proud to serve the Sparta school community as he builds upon the foundation that has been established throughout Sparta’s prestigious history.
