Winter/Spring 2020's Featured Alumni: Jaida Schettino

  • Jaida Schettino is Winter/Spring 2020’s Featured Alumni.  Graduating from Sparta High School in 2016, Jaida began her education in Communications at County College of Morris (CCM) as a student athlete on the Women’s Soccer team where she earned Academic All American honors.  During her time at CCM, she served on the executive boards of numerous student organizations, was the President of CCM’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (the international honor society of two year colleges), the Treasurer of Sigma Chi Eta (the communication honor society), as well as the Public Relations Manager of the CCM Love Your Melon Campus Crew.

While holding these positions, Jaida visited the State House in Trenton with the college’s President and Vice President to lobby for an increase in funding for New Jersey’s community colleges. She also represented her college at a New Jersey Communication Association Conference with CCM communication faculty members on a panel to address Governor Phil Murphy’s initiative “New Jersey’s Promise.” Over the course of her two years as a Titan, she was awarded as an All-USA Coca Cola Scholar, recognized at Phi Theta Kappa’s Annual International Conference in Kansas City, MO, and recognized for having the highest female GPA in athletics.

After graduating from CCM in May 2018 Magna Cum Laude, Jaida transferred to Ithaca College in August 2018 as a Communication, Management and Design major with a concentration in Corporate Communication and a member of the Leadership Scholar Program. While in her first semester at Ithaca College, she decided to bring a Love Your Melon Campus Crew to the college as the President/Crew Captain. Throughout her time with her crew, they had opportunities to visit and reach out to the community including visiting pediatric cancer patients at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. During her time at Ithaca College, Jaida received recognitions and awards including assisting a professor with an independent research project observing “Femvertising” in award winning companies’ advertising campaigns, as well as being inducted into the Tau Sigma National Honor Society for Transfer Students and the Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honor Society.

In June 2019, she interned with the New York Giants as a Premium Services Training Camp intern, and while in her third and final semester as an Ithaca student she attended the Ithaca College New York City program.  This allowed her to intern full-time with NBC 4 New York in the Community and Communications Department and continue working part-time with the New York Giants as a Premium Services Gameday Associate.

In December 2019, Jaida graduated from Ithaca College with honors. In May 2020, she will begin working full-time as the Community & Communications Coordinator in her former department at NBC 4 New York.

When asked how she felt about being recognized as this Winter’s Featured Alumni, she stated, “It is an honor to be recognized as a Sparta Alumni Association Featured Alumni. My education at Sparta High School, and specifically through our amazing marketing program and affiliation with DECA was instrumental in preparing for my higher education and future career in communication.”

Jaida, the Sparta High School Alumni Association is proud to recognize you for all your past, current, and future accomplishments, and we wish you all the best as you continue the next chapter of your personal and professional journey.
