About Helen Morgan School
"Continuing on the Path to Success"
In both grades 4 and 5, students have separate ELA and Math teachers; allowing our staff to focus on content-based strengths and students to grow into the experience of switching classes. We use the Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop model for both reading and writing and utilize an assortment of technology-based programs to enhance the student learning experience. Examples of this include: Google Classroom, Google Applications for Education, Mobymax, Storyworks, and Spelling City.
For mathematics, we use the Envision 2.0 math program as the basis of our program and use additional teacher-developed lessons and assessments as needed as well as additional technology-based programs such as Google Classroom, Khan Academy, SumDog, and Arcademics.
All students have weekly lessons in Spanish, Media/Computer Technology, Music, Art, Physical Education and, if chosen, Band and Orchestra.
Highlights of our year include 4th grade trips to Sterling Mines and Camp at The Lake, and 5th grade trips to Quiet Valley Colonial Farm and The Buehler Space Science Center. Many of our students participate in our after-school enrichment activities through programs such as TREP$, Chess Team, LEGO Robotics and Explorations.
We are grateful to our parent community for their support of our programs and activities. The Parent Teacher Organization and the Sparta Education Foundation are key partners in our ability to provide for our students the best resources and experiences that enhance our overall programs.
