General:
1. Students will show respect for others and follow instructions given by the staff.
2. Students will settle differences peacefully (stop/think/plan).
3. Students will keep their hands and feet to themselves.
4. Students will show pride in their school by keeping the building and grounds free of litter
5. Everyone is welcome into our school regardless of race, color, or creed.
6. Reach out to those who are put down or cast aside for being different.
7. Be friendly and accept everyone into friendships and group activities.
8. Speak to each other in a positive or affirming way.
Cafeteria:
1. Students will remain seated until given specific instructions to: purchase snacks or discard trash and return trays by table.
2. Running is not permitted in the cafeteria.
3. Each student is responsible for cleaning up his/her own trash at lunchtime – including keeping the tabletop and floor clean.
4. Students will not play with or throw food.
5. Children will use quiet voices.
Bus:
1. Students will show respect for others and follow instructions given by driver.
2. Children will remain seated throughout bus ride.
3. Students will keep head and arms inside windows.
4. Children will not throw anything about bus or out of windows.
5. Students will use appropriate language and quiet voices.
6. Students will not tamper with emergency equipment.
7. Children will be held accountable for their behavior at the bus stop.
Bus Discipline – The following school district procedures will be implemented when disciplinary action is required:
1. First offense: Warning to student, notification to parents.
2. Second offense: Letter to parent notifying of possible suspension of riding privileges.
3. Third offense: Letter to parent and three-day suspension of riding privileges.
4. Continued offenses: Additional suspension for five days to permanent suspension of riding privileges.
***Serious infractions may result in the immediate suspension of riding privileges at the
discretion of the building Principal.
It is the belief that behavioral issues can be dealt with in the classroom and extreme behaviors mandate administrative intervention. However, in order to correct the actions of repeat offenders, teachers do have the option of assigning detention. This will take place during the common activity period. Students will report to Mr. Domonokos' room with class work/homework and work silently during this time. Any time a detention is given, parents will be notified accordingly.
Threats or Acts of Violence: Any threat or action that suggests the possibility of bodily harm to another person(s) must and will be taken seriously by the school administration. This includes any student whom verbally or in writing threatens to hurt another person (i.e. “I’m going to kill you”), or who brings an object to school that could be considered a weapon. Parents and Guardians are urged to please review with their children what is appropriate and inappropriate regarding this important matter. The following procedure will be implemented regarding any threat or act of violence in the judgement of the school administration at Mohawk Avenue:
1. Incident will be reported to the Sparta Police Department.
2. School Superintendent will be notified both verbally and in writing.
3. Parents of all students involved will be contacted regarding incident and course of action to be taken by school administration.
4. School psychologist will interview student(s) involved.
5. Following interview with school psychologist and Mr. Gregory, appropriate action will be recommended by Mr. Gregory. Appropriate action could include but not be limited to: parent conference, after school detention, in-school suspension, outside professional mental evaluation/counseling, suspension/expulsion from school.
