The SMS Wellness Council was started in 2006 in an effort to change the culture at SMS for both students and staff with regard to a healthier lifestyle. The council meets once a month to discuss, plan and implement strategies that will lead to a healthier enviornment. The council works in conjunction with the Clinton Foundation for a Healthier Generation. More information can be found on their website http://www.healthiergeneration.org
During the 2008/2009 Sparta Middle School reached Bronze Level Recognition for the programs that are currently in place.
