SPARTA HIGH SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
Sparta High School’s role is to help each student to know his/her capabilities, to develop his/her skills and interest, and to understand his/her limitations; and therefore, the student can become an active, responsible, and contributing member of society. The intellectual, social, cultural, and physical activities provided should be directed toward developing student understanding and behavior which reflect self-confidence, self-discipline, self-respect, and an awareness of the worth of each individual.
The primary responsibility of the school is to provide the means for each student to master the fundamental processes of learning. Through guidance, counseling, testing programs, and choices in curricular offerings, the school should insure that the many learning environments deal with the concerns of the students. It should also insure that the school meets the needs of the students with varied capacities, interest, and skill levels. Another responsibility that the school shares with the home and the community is the moral and ethical development of each student.
The methods employed by the staff to attain these goals should be flexible enough to adapt to a changing society. It must continually evaluate both social transitions and programs in order to innovate when necessary or to avoid change for the sake of change. This evaluation should include re-examination of the school’s philosophy and objectives. As a district, the staff recognizes the need to provide an educational climate that makes school a place where Sparta’s youth wants to be.
