The following policies are followed regarding acceptance of college or high school courses by Sparta High School:
Students must receive approval from the Director of Guidance prior to enrollment (copy of course description from institution must accompany request).
Course(s) must not be offered by Sparta High School (see Program of Studies booklet).
Only credit-bearing courses that are educationally significant and which will contribute to the student's academic or career goals will be approved.
Courses cannot be used to fulfill specific subject area requirements as prescribed by the New Jersey Department of Education and the Sparta Township Board of Education. However, approved courses may be used toward fulfilling the 120-credit requirement for graduation.
Courses taken at a local community college or online cannot be used as prerequisites to gain entry into the Honors or AP Program at Sparta High School (specific Honors/AP entry requirements exist - see Student Agenda for details).
Students are expected to submit evidence of successful completion of course(s) to the Director of Guidance. Transcripts of completed courses must be maintained through the credit issuing institution.
Courses taken at local community colleges or online DO NOT count toward grade point average and/or class rank computation.
