Regular and punctual attendance is essential to your child’s success in school. Absence, tardiness, or early departure from school is only excused for the following reasons
1.Disabling illness
2.Recovery from an accident
3.Required court attendance
4. Serious illnesses or death in the student’s family.
5. Doctor or dental appointment, which cannot be scheduled for any other time.
6. Religious observance.
What to do when your child will be absent:
Call the school absence line at 729-4068 before 9:00 a.m. Please be sure to state your child’s name, teacher, the reason for absence, and the duration if known. The recorder is operational 24 hours a day.
Whenever the absence is prearranged (doctor, dentist, etc.) the student should bring in a note from home in advance of the absence.
Parents are urged to plan vacation time when school is not in session. Parents requesting permission for excused absences for trips must notify the office and the teacher prior to the trip. (Please see Homework section for information regarding missed assignments.)
What constitutes tardiness and absenteeism:
Students will be considered tardy when entering the building after 8:00 a.m. A pupil arriving after this time must report to the office--not directly to the classroom.
A student will be considered to have attended school if he or she has been present at least four hours during the school day.
Extended absence and Home Instruction: In case of extended absence for medical reasons, it may be necessary for the student to receive instruction at home. If a child will be absent for more than two weeks due to an injury or illness, a doctor’s note must be submitted to the school and arrangements will be made for a home tutor for that period of time. A professional teacher will provide this instruction at no cost to the family.
Prolonged or repeated absences from school, excused or unexcused, that deprive the student of the classroom experience deemed essential to learning could result in retention at a grade level. A Pupil Assistance Committee will review the attendance and academic records of any student whose total daily absences are considered excessive during the course of the school year.
