Current:  All internal Summer IT work was successfully completed with minimal downtime.  All remaining work is pending contractor final completions.

Update: Tuesday Aug 17^th 2010

The Fiber contractor will be installing the new fiber connections between the New SHS Data Center and the school buildings, starting the evening of Wednesday August 18^th through Thursday August 19^th.  This work will be completed Late Thursday to have the district back up and running Friday the 20^th.  District IT staff will be moving the remaining server and network equipment from Mohawk Ave to the High School during this time period.

Moodle migration Friday August 20th.  Moodle will not be available during this migration.

We apologize for any inconveniences, this process will result in a much more robust and efficient connection to the district’s IT resources for the upcoming school year.

District-wide network and server upgrades

The district is undergoing a major network and server install to accommodate the new Sparta High School.

During this process, there will be necessary outages that will cause temporary limited access to these resources, as data is moved to new servers, new network equipment is installed and construction areas are handed over to the district.

The district’s e-mail server was one of the major updates, and though this process has resulted in minor outages as servers were restarted, the district is able to send and receive mail to all staff with dedicated computers inside the buildings. Only staff who access their e-mail by webmail, will be affected during this final phase:  mailboxes are currently being moved from the old server to the new server. In order to make sure there is no data loss, this process is lengthy, but automated.  This will not affect anyone being able to send staff e-mail, only staff being able to access the mailbox via the web interface for a few days, as over 600 mailboxes are transferred.

The next major outage will be when the fiber contractor connects the buildings with a new fiber network, to support the new SHS resources.  To save time and limit downtime, we will be moving existing server and network equipment from Mohawk Ave School to the New SHS Data Center, while the fiber contractor completes their work. We will post these dates once we get the schedule from the contractor.
