Effective September 1, 2011, The New Jersey First Act implemented May 17, 2011, requires all employees of a school district to reside in the state of New Jersey.  Employees of the Sparta Twp School District hired after the effective date who do not reside in the State of New Jersey at the time of hire have one year from the effective date of employment to relocate their primary residence to New Jersey.  Employees of the school district hired prior to the September 1, 2011 effective date of this Act are grandfathered and are not required to relocate to New Jersey.

All applicants must be interviewed by an Administrator and upon the recommendation from the Administrator and the completion of all the required paperwork, including fingerprinting, all substitutes must then be approved by the Board of Education.    If you do not hold New Jersey Certification, you must apply for a County Substitute Certificate which requires a minimum of 60 College credits.   Fees for becoming an approved substitute include $80 for fingerprinting and $125 for a County Substitute Certificate.   This process takes about 4 to 6 weeks.   You will be notified when you have received Board of Education approval and will then be included in Sparta’s Substitute List.
