A MESSAGE FROM OUR NEW SUPERINTENDENT
December 2, 2016
Dear Sparta Learning Community,
It is with great excitement that I have started my tenure as the new Superintendent of such a wonderful school system and Township. For many years I have followed the academic, athletic, and extra-curricular accomplishments the District has produced. It is truly an honor to now assume a key leadership role toward the continuation of such a tradition. Having had the privilege of working in other progressive educational organizations the last 29 years, I realize the critical importance of a shared vision established through community engagement, high standards, and a commitment to excellence. In any occupation or endeavor the most successful organizations are those with a belief that each and every member plays a vital role. In the education field, certificated staff, classroom assistants, support staff, building and district administrators, coaches, advisors, along with countless others, are part of the teaching and learning process. Anyone who has ever been connected to the development of elementary, middle, or high school students knows what a tremendous responsibility we have.
As such, there is no greater charge in the world than helping to prepare our children for the future. With that recognition in mind, over the next several months it is my intention to get to know as much as possible about our programs, people, and the public in Sparta. By way of formal meetings, informal conversations, attendance at events, and communication through various mediums, it is my goal to identify the strengths and challenges of our school district, and make informed recommendations to the Board of Education that will benefit our students. We are preparing our youth for jobs that have not yet been created, in a world that changes almost daily, with ‘real time’ results as the standard. For us to be successful in this task, we need to strive for continuous improvement in all facets of the delivery of instructional services. Providing on-going professional development for staff, leveraging on digital applications, and diversifying our approach will provide the foundation to meet our objectives.
As I observe, participate in, and discuss with stakeholders the experiences we provide K-12, voices both within and complementary to the system are encouraged to be part of the dialogue. Accordingly, as a parent of three public school children (two who are currently in college), I realize that of paramount importance is a healthy partnership between the school and home. Collaboration with parents and extended family is the lynchpin to achievement and self-fulfillment as young children eventually become young adults. All along their journey the classroom-home connection is always very important. With that in mind, please do not hesitate to contact me to share ideas, concerns or accolades about your involvement with the Sparta Public Schools. Each day is a chance to positively impact the life of a child. I am thrilled to play a role in shaping that for years to come.
